Junior High School English Speaking Skills Training

These are training movies created by the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education to nurture junior high school students’ English speaking ability.
They enable students to practice speaking while watching and listening to videos.

Basic Structure

Students are able to learn appropriate phrases through the audio and written examples of answers after each question, as well as confirmation of the details after practicing.
There are three stages, from Stage 1 to Stage 3, and students are able to choose a stage suited to their academic level.

Structure / How to Use

(1)Read text aloud

  • English text for specific situations are shown (Ex: Reading a manuscript over the school’s PA system).
    After preparing, students will read that English text aloud.

(2)Answer and ask questions

  • Consists of a part where students answer questions and a part where they ask questions themselves.
  • In the part where students answer questions, they answer as though they are the people in that specific situation.
  • In the part where students answer questions, they follow along with a video and ask questions using an interview sheet with the details of the questions summarized.

(3)Depict and explain situations

  • Explains the illustrations and images shown on the screen.

(4) State ideas and opinions

  • Students will state their ideas and opinions in response to the questions they are asked in English.

It enables students to get an idea of how English is used in classes and actual communication by watching movies.
